| One of the latest core conditioning programs to hit the fitness industry is a fusion of Pilates and the BOSU Balance Trainer. The BOSU, which stands for "Both Sides Up," is a relatively new fitness tool that is flat on one side and domed on the other - like a ball cut in half. The U.S. Ski Team, the New York Knicks and the Dallas Cowboys have incorporated the BOSU in their training regimens. Pilates and the BOSU trainer are natural fit as both focus on the principle that balance is the basis for motion. Andi Hibbert has offered BOSU-Pilates classes for several months and finds it challenges her students to work much harder, especially in the abs. The unstable surface of the dome forces you to tighten deep core muscles or else you'll fall off whenever you try to initiate movement. Andi Hibbert is a certified instructor in the Classical Pilates Method as well as Bosu certified instructor and Bosu distributor. A wide variety of Pilates-based moves can be modified for the BOSU, performed in a sitting, standing or lying position with the flat side or round side up. Andi limits her classes to six-eight students so she can closely monitor their form and progress. Bosu Total Body small group classes are currently running every Thursday 5:30-6:30 pm at Balanced 4 Fitness Studio, East Orleans. 4 class pack $60.00 Call for availability 508-240-2739 A Special Bosu Package for $160.00 Includes a one hour Bosu personal training session.
